Obituary of William Meade
WALLINGFORD – William J. Meade, 69, of Oakdale Circle, died January 31, 2007. He was the husband of Maryann Brady Meade.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on March 5, 1937, son of the late William and Margaret (Eckhoff) Meade, Bill was a man with incredible heart and his family was the most beloved and cherished part of his life. Whether leading a Boy Scout pack or running a fundraiser for the high school band, watching a concert or taking Maryann dancing, he put his heart and soul into being a wonderful husband and father. He instilled the importance of love and service in his children by living in that spirit and he always believed in the inherent goodness in all people. His compassionate soul and loving kindness will live on as a testament to his life and he will be dearly missed by so many whose lives he has touched.
During his remarkable life, he served on the boards for the United Way and Chrysalis and following his retirement from Nationwide Insurance, he was active with volunteer work throughout the region. He served for many years as a tutor for literacy volunteers and was honored as the National ESL Tutor of the Year in 2000. He loved his students very much and their successes brought him much joy. Over the past few years, he served as an Elder Horizons Volunteer at Yale-New Haven Hospital. In addition, he wrote poetry which he shared as a contributor to the Record Journal. He enjoyed tennis matches with his friends and bowling with his league at Colony Lanes in Wallingford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Mary Rose Meade and her husband Mark Busa of Hebron, CT; two sons, Christopher J. Meade and his wife Stella Schuhmacher of NY, NY and Michael Meade and his wife Allison of Brooklyn, NY; his brother, Kenneth Meade of New Jersey; and his four beloved grandsons, Danny, Adam, Peter, and Paul Busa all of Hebron.
