WALLINGFORD - Robert Jay Heilman, 89, of Wallingford, departed this life on Monday, April 1, 2013 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden following a brief illness. For sixty-seven years he was the loving husband of his high school sweetheart, Nancy (Young) Heilman. Robert was born on March 17, 1924 in Wallingford, son of the late Norman and Sigrid (Malmquist) Heilman. Prior to retiring, he operated his family's business, Heilman's Bakery in Wallingford, for many years. He was formerly a member of the Exchange Club and was active in horse associations in Connecticut and New England. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nancy Cavanaugh and her husband Mike of Meriden; grandchildren: Kristen Bellantuono and her husband Paul of Bristol, Michele Ruggiero and her husband Ron of Meriden, and Lisa Johnson and her husband Greg of Southington; and great grandchildren: Madyson, Joshua, Michael, RJ, Kaylee and Xander. He is preceded in death by his son, Robert Jay Heilman, Jr. Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
