I saw Karen perform the first time in Berkeley at one of the Sacred Dance Guild festivals. She did a hilarious number that involved different personalities expressed by hats, it might even have been one hat used different ways. I always enjoyed meeting up with her at festivals and seeing what her creative talents would produce next. She gave me the courage to also perform funny numbers with others, whether the Skyloom dance group dancing with our feet in the air, or a duo with Elaine Sisler, she the young flighty one, and I the oldster. Unfortunately I will not be able to be there on June 17 - My condolences.

My Mom's oldest and dearest of friends,
As school and Sunday school classmates you built a friendship that lasted ever since kindegarden and first grade. My Danish Great Grandmother spoke highly of you from countless sleepovers at her house with my Mom. Long before meeting you, you were a fixture in my life. It was a great comfort to know my parents wills named you and Walter our honorary Godparents. Each of the three times we met in person are counted among my favorite life memories for the joy and free spirited amusement shared. After leaving the nest, I included you as family the few times I have written holiday cards. Proud of your accomplishments, the greatest of which are your children that likely do not recall us. You have left an indelible mark on my life. Thank-you for being a vibrant force of love, joy and inspiration. Prayers for restored peace and joy filled laughter to Walter and your extended generations. God bless you until we meet again.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear of Karen's passing. I'm the department assistant for Religious Studies/Philosophy at Sacred Heart and that's where I got to know her. She was always cheerful and warm towards me, and we had many a good talk about theater, sharing notes and experiences about community theater, especially. She shall be very missed.

I missed the initial obituary and notice on Facebook about Karen's passing. I am so sad! I was Karen's colleague and erstwhile chairperson for the many years she taught religion at Sacred Heart University. Karen was a fun, passionate teacher, as I am sure her many friends know. She brought her love of storytelling, art, and drama to her courses. One of her unique contributions to our department was that she created the course "Storytelling and the Bible." I loved talking with Karen and sometimes getting to socialize with her outside of work. And I'm grateful that for the years I was selling my daughter's Girl Scout cookies, she always purchased two packages of gluten-free! You'll be deeply missed, Karen, but I know your spirit is dancing in the heavens.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of Karen. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, I look forward to the time when words fail to capture the joy of having our Heavenly Father return your dear loved one to you. Until that time may God grant you inner peace and comfort you as you grieve this painful loss. -2 Corinthians 1:3,4.
With all sincerity,

Dear Walter and family,
How hard it is to imagine our world without Karen’s compassionate and contagious enthusiasm dancing in it. I’m so grateful for the years she and I danced together in the liturgical dance group at St. Paul and St. James Episcopal Church and in the years I spent in the Sacred Dance Guild. She brought such gifts of imagination, creativity, and teaching along with a grounded faith in God’s call to us to be the Body of Christ lovingly alive in the world. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you during this hard time of grief and loss. May her soul and the souls of all the departed Rest In Peace.
The Rev. Barbara Cheney

Walt-I was saddened to hear of the passing of your wife. While I never met her I knew she was a remarkable woman through our conversations and friendship over the past 12-years. The obituary you and your children wrote was a beautiful tribute to her. Know that you and your entire family are in my thoughts.

Dear, sweet “Fat Violet” ( nick name that evolved from high school- when she used to tap across the stage!!) ... I only wish every child/ student could have a teacher and mentor as wonderful as she was in their lives. She was both my English teacher and advisor from 1969 to 1971. She gave me confidence at a time when I was very insecure... she encouraged, “ pushed” and made me explore all the possibilities that lay before me. Now looking at our age difference - she could actually have been even considered “a big sister “ in my life. I have always cherished her good counsel. My heartfelt sympathy to all her family. May your memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.

I count myself privileged to have had my life touched, blessed, and enriched by having Karen be involved in my and my daughter Kristin's life.
My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to her incredible extended family of all the other lives she has impacted, and especially to Walter.
I am a better person for having known her. The most significant thing Karen taught me was the importance of sharing the gifts that God has blessed each of us with.
May we all continue to do this in her memory and carry her enduring spirit on our lives and into the lives of all others.
Thank you Karen.

I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Karen at Tabor Arts in Branford and with the home school community in North Haven, Together we enjoyed producing musicals like "The Music Man", "Pirates of Penzance", "Fiddler on The Roof", "Beauty and The Beast", and more. Karen's love of theater and of the children was inspiring, and endearing. Karen's friendship was a gift, and I regret taking it for granted for too long. I will miss her, and remember her with great affection.
