WALLINGFORD � Irwin W. Smith, 102, of 22 Masonic Avenue died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Masonic Healthcare Center. He was the husband of the late Marjorie Fricke Smith. He was born in New York City, December 17, 1907 a son of the late Benjamin and Lilly Carson Smith. He was a veteran of World War ll, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Columbia University and received his masters from NJ Sate College in Montclair and his Juris Doctor from New York University. He was an insurance agent with John Hancock Life Insurance Company for 30 years until his retirement and then was a permanent substitute teacher at Paramus High School in New Jersey for 25 years. He is survived by a son, Dr. I. Stuart Smith and his wife Betty of Chelmsford, MA , two daughters, Merilyn L. Sandberg and her husband Paul of Wallingford and Dorothy S. Mullen of Princeton, NJ, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
