Obituary of Benjamin F. Grywalski

Benjamin F. Grywalski, 93, of Southington, CT, formerly of Wallingford, CT and Myrtle Beach, SC, died peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, February 6, 2010. He was born July 8, 1916 in Westport, CT, son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Zawiskak) Grywalski. He was a World War II Veteran, having served from 1941 to 1945 at the U.S. Army�s Hq. Battery, 11th Coast Artillery Unit at Fort H. G. Wright on Fishers Island, New York. He had been employed by the Joseph T. Ryerson & Son Company in Wallingford for 30 years until his retirement in 1976. He learned to play golf as a young boy by earning money as a caddy to professional golfers at the private clubs of Fairfield County. His passion for the game continued his whole life, and even at the age of 91, his long drives were the envy of all golfers. He married the late Adele Bosse in Fairfield, CT, on October 3, 1942 and they were married for 64 years until her death in 2006. He is survived by his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Louis Aresco of Charlotte, NC, Michele and Richard Distasio of Wallingford, CT, and Lorraine Hourigan of Meriden, CT; his seven granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and Scott Donovan of Charlotte, NC, Lori and Thomas Hicks of Atlanta, GA, Leslie and Christopher Glasgow of Kennesaw, GA, Sandra and David LeTourneau of Cheshire, CT, Brenda and Jody Acampora of Cromwell, CT, Tamara and William LaPlante of East Longmeadow, MA, and Stacia and John Doyle of Cheshire, CT. He is also survived by his 12 adoring great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Bleu Donovan, Mary Miley and Thomas Hicks, Anna Marie and Michael Glasgow, Kyle LeTourneau, Benjamin and Nicholas Acampora, Brielle and Jaclyn LaPlante, and Megan and John Patrick Doyle. He is also survived by his sister, Julie Grywalski, of Fairfield, CT and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Frank, Stanley, Thomas and Joseph Grywalski, and his sister, Mary Kinsella. Friends may attend a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, February 12, 2010, at 10:00 AM at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Road, Wallingford, CT. Arrangements are under the direction of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford, CT. Burial with military honors will be at St. John�s Cemetery.
