Obituary of Nell Logan Thomas
Thomas, Nell Logan, 97 years old died peacefully on January 27, 2010 of natural causes in her home at Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT where she lived for the last 15 years. She is the daughter of the late Dr. John & Mrs. Edna Logan of Portage, PA, sister of the late Martha Logan Joyce of Bluefield, WVa and the sister of the late Glen Lavel Logan, Los Angeles, CA.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Logan Evans Rich of New York City, NY.
After graduating from Portage High School she attended Seton Hill College, Greensberg, PA where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. After graduation she took a position as a dietitian at Philadelphia General Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. She married the late Norman William Evans, son of Judge John and Mrs. Frances Evans of Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ and then Pitt in Pittsburgh, PA. After a long illness and his untimely death she and her daughter lived with her parents in Portage. Nell was anxious to resume her career and ultimately was employed by a major utility company in Beckley, WVa as a Home Economist. She then met and married the late Bernard Lee Thomas, son of Mr. Gomer and Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of West Virginia University in Morgantown, WVa. Eventually they retired and moved to Yaupon Beach, NC where they lived for several years. They were founding members of St. Peter�s Lutheran Church. Mr. Thomas had a very active and distinguished career with Air Force Intelligence during WWII and was the recipient of many awards. After the death of her husband, she moved to Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Seton Hill College, 1 Seton Hill Dr., Greensburg, PA 15601 or to a favorite charity in her memory would be appreciated. There will be a memorial service at Ashlar Village � date to be announced. She will be interred in Norwood Cemetery, Southport, NC, next to her husband Bernard Thomas.
