Obituary of Louis C. Haeffner

WALLINGFORD - Louis C. Haeffner, 82, of Wallingford and formerly of Orange, beloved husband of 56 years to Marjory (Sprout) Haeffner, departed this life on January 3, 2010 at Masonic Health Care Center. Lou was born on August 13, 1927 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, son of the late Louis and Nancy (Parke) Haeffner. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. In 1954 he graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering and a master's degree in Industrial Engineering and Statistics. He began his career working with Ford Motor Company in Detroit and later went to White Motor Company in Ohio. He relocated to Glastonbury, Connecticut, when he started working at Pratt and Whitney. He and Marjory then moved to Orange where he finished his career at Sikorsky. Next to his family and Penn State football, his love of model railroading completed his life. He enjoyed collecting and attending train shows throughout the country. In retirement, he spent many hours supporting the Orange Model Train Club where he established many close friends through his train collecting activities. He will be sadly missed by his wife Marjory, and their children: Margy Koester and her husband Wayne of IN, Gail Nissley and her husband David of Marlborough, and Scott Haeffner and his wife Barbara of Wallingford. He also leaves a brother Robert Haeffner of York, PA, along with four beloved grandchildren Steven, Glen, Jennifer, and Daniel as well as his cat Missy. The family thanks everyone at the Masonic Health Care Center, Wallingford, CT. We greatly appreciate the friendships established and the excellent care provided by the Wooster 2 staff. Lou was a long time member of the Orange Congregational Church. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, January 30, 2010 at the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meeting House Lane, Orange, CT 06477. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orange Congregational Church Organ Fund or the First Congregational Church of Wallingford Memorial Fund, 23 South Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492. At a later date internment will be at the family cemetery plot in Lewistown, Pennsylvania.
