Obituary of Theodore Lok
Theodore Lok died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Masonic Hospital and Hospice in Wallingford,
Born in Boskoop, Netherlands on April 13, 1923 to the late Arie and Paulina Lok, Ted and his family came to the United States in 1929 and settled in New London, CT. Ted graduated from Chapman Tech in New London and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. He served in WW II in the U.S. Navy on the USS Frost and the USS Chimaera. Ted spent the majority of his career as an Electrical Engineer at Pratt and Whitney and as an Account Executive for Sciaky Brothers, a Chicago based firm that manufactured Electron Beam Welders. His area of expertise was Electron Beam Welding and he was widely recognized as an expert in his field.
An avid athlete, Ted enjoyed tennis, softball, bowling and especially golf. He loved gardening, fine carpentry, playing bridge and poker, international travel, airplanes and their engines, and spending time with his grandchildren. He served as President of the Torrington and Glastonbury Exchange Clubs. He was a member of the Silas Deane Lodge of the Masons, The American Welding Society, The American Institute of Electric Engineers, The Glastonbury Hills Country Club, First Church Congregational in Glastonbury and later First Church Congregational in Wallingford.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Foss Lok; two sons, Jan and his wife Maureen of Marietta, GA and Peter and his wife Sandra of Manchester, CT; two daughters, Nancy Bailey and her husband Cory of Fairfield, CT and Theodora Salko and her husband Chris of Southport, CT; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a brother John and his wife Margery of South Dartmouth, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald.
The funeral will be held at First Church Congregational in Wallingford, CT on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation in Wallingford, CT. The B. C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford has been entrusted with arrangements.
