Obituary of Lewis Nash Bly
Lewis Nash Bly passed away at the age of 90 on Sunday morning April 2, 2017 in the hospice unit of the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT.
Lewis was the beloved husband of Eileen Helwig Bly who together celebrated their marriage of 68 years. Lewis will be missed by his four children: Tacey, Jamie, Alison, and Nash, by his three grandchildren: Terry, Philip, and Graham, and by his two great-grandchildren: James and Madison.
Lewis was born on July 6, 1926 in Norwalk, CT. He was raised in Darien and North Stamford. Lewis attended school at Principia in St. Louis and studied mechanical engineering at the University of Bridgeport. During World War II, Lewis served in General Patten's Third Army. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was later stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. Lewis worked at The Nash Engineering Company in Norwalk as a mechanical engineer for 30 years. He also served on the Board of Directors.
Lewis had volunteered at Save the Sound, Norwalk Maritime Museum, and Person to Person Food Bank. He was a member of The Power Squadron, Noroton Yacht Club, and the Darien Men's Club. Here at Ashlar, Lewis served on the finance committee, was treasurer of the Ashlar Masons and was active in the woodwork shop. Lewis also enjoyed sailing and boating from the time he was a boy. He and Eileen traveled extensively both in the US and abroad. He enjoyed living at Ashlar and made many friends.
