Obituary of Dorothy Syphers
Dorothy Syphers, 80, of Middletown, departed this life on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur Elliot Syphers.
Dorothy was born on October 5, 1928, in Meriden, CT, a daughter of the late William and Mildred (Lawton) Johnson.
Prior to her retirement, Dorothy had been employed for over thirty years at the former World War II Veterans Memorial Center (MidState)- East Campus. She was a fifty year member of Meridian Chapter #8 OES and served as a two time Past Matron of Meridian Chapter and a former Grand Officer of the Grand Chapter. Currently, she served as Grand Representative of South Dakota in Connecticut. Formerly, she had served on the Advisory Board for Meriden Assembly #11 IORG. She was a forty-seven year member of the Cook Hill Homemakers group. For a number of years, she volunteered at MediQuick-East Campus. She had been an active camper, outdoors person, and traveled throughout the United States and Canada.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters: Janet Berry and Linda Syphers, both of Middletown and her grandson Philip Lawton Berry and his wife Jennifer of Groton, and her many close friends.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, August 28, 2009 at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. An OES Service will be held at 6:00 pm.
