Obituary of Dorothy W. Haller
WALLINGFORD � Dorothy W. Haller, 95, of the Masonic Health Center and formerly of the Yalesville section of Wallingford, entered into rest on Aug. 7, 2009, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Russell Haller.
She was born in Simsbury, Oct. 22, 1913, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Grace E. Scott Walker. Mrs. Haller graduated from Lyman Hall High School, class of 1931, and was a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church and took over her husband's job as sexton of the church, a 75-year-member of the Wallingford Grange #33 and had been the Fair Secretary for 50 years, a member of the New Haven County, State and National Grange for over 70 years. She had worked in the office at the Masonic Home in the 1930's & 40's. She was also a member of the Stanley Budleski Post #9965 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years, Wallingford/Meriden O.E.S. for 50 years, was a former Girl Scout and Girl Scout Leader in Wallingford and Yalesville for many years and former member of the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet B. Haller of Yalesville, Ruth H. Hewston and her husband, Melvin; of Yalesville and Susan H. Height and her husband Roger of Bloomfield; a sister, Janet W. Mann of Yalesville; three grandchildren, Robert D. Kelly of Wethersfield, Matthew J. Hewston of Harwinton and Samatha J. Hewston of Yalesville; two great-grandchildren, Alanah and Alyja Kelly; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Washburn.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. at the Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford on Monday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the Wallingford Grange # 33, c/o Kate Maxwell, 16 Knolifield Rd., Meriden, CT 06450, or the Yalesville United Methodist Church, 8 New Place St., Yalesville 06492.
