Obituary of Arthur Edwin Soderlind
WALLINGFORD � Arthur E. Soderlind of the Masonic Healthcare Center passed away peacefully in his 88th year on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden, Connecticut. He was born August 15, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, a son to the late Arthur Julius and Beda Soderlind of Margaretville, New York. He was a long-time resident of Simsbury, CT and later of Farmington, CT.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Neumann) of Wallingford and by three daughters, Sheryl (Tony) Nikolassy of Norwood, MA; Linda (Paul) Turner of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and Deborah (Rod) Shaffer of Fairport, NY. He is also survived by his sister, Eugenia (Nelson) Gray of Kingston, NY and by his step-mother Marjorie Soderlind of Roxbury, NY. He has four loving grandchildren- Matthew, Diane, David and Bethany. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Masonic ACU and Ramage 5 for their excellent care and support.
Arthur was the Social Studies Consultant for the Connecticut Department of Education for 25 years retiring in 1986. He received his BA and MA from the New York State College for Teachers in Albany and his PHD from the University of Iowa. He spent time in India on a Fulbright Grant. He was a veteran of WWII and was a Sgt-T5 for the United States Army 800th Engineers Forestry Company serving in Italy and North Africa. He was a member of the Margaretville, New York Masonic Lodge #389. He was a past member of the board of the New England Synod of the Lutheran Church of America. He has also been a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Harford for 48 years.
A memorial service after cremation will be held on Thursday, April 2nd at 1:00 PM in the Masonic Healthcare Center Chapel, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT. Memorial gifts in Arthur�s memory may be made to the Masonic Healthcare Center or Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106.
