Obituary of Edith R. Bellows
WALLINGFORD � Edith R. Bellows, 89, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at the MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Nicola F. Bellows.
She was born March 25, 1919, a daughter of the late Andrew and Maria (Sartori) Rossi.
Prior to her marriage, Edith was employed in the office of Wallace Silversmiths and was the secretary to the president and vice president of M. Backes & Sons. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection and was involved in many civic organizations including the boards of the Wallingford Red Cross, the Wallingford Visiting Nurses Association, and the Board of Governors at the MidState Medical Center. She was a member of the MidState Medical Center Auxiliary and was a dedicated volunteer at the gift shop of the former Meriden Hospital and Meriden-Wallingford Hospital. She was a member of the Wallingford Garden Club, Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust, the Wallingford Public Library, and was a life member of the Wallingford Country Club.
Edith will be dearly missed by her sisters, Lucy R. Bernat of Meriden, recently of Boca Raton, Florida, and Mildred L. Rossi and Julia R. D'Agostino, who resided with her. Edith is survived by a daughter Mary Bellows Pohl and her husband William and her nieces and nephew, Dr. Andrea Gelzer and her husband Reed, Ruth D'Agostino, and Peter A. Rossi and his wife, Barbara. She is also survived by two grandsons William C. Pohl and his wife Katie, and Nicola Pohl. She was the great aunt of Matthew, Andrew and George Gelzer, Alexander and Julie Robles, and Jacqueline and Christopher Rossi. She has two great grandsons, Liam and Abram Pohl, of Erie Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her brothers Peter J. Rossi and George A. Rossi and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial mass of Christian burial in celebration of her life will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford on January 5, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment at St. John's Cemetery is private. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Rd., Wallingford or MidState Medical Center, Development Office, 435 Lewis Avenue Meriden, CT. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
