Obituary of Katherine Farkas
Wallingford - Katherine D. Farkas, 88, of Wallingford, departed this life on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Mid-State Medical Center.
Kay was born on June 19, 1920 in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Elizabeth and George (Nagy) Farkas.
Moving here in 1931, Kay was educated in the Wallingford Public Schools. She worked as a timekeeper for Stanley Judd for 35 years until her retirement.
Kay was a devoted caregiver to her immediate family and maintained strong connections with family members who also honored their Hungarian heritage.
A quick witted conversationalist, Kay enjoyed the company of many friends and neighbors. As a young woman she would take the train to soak in the sights of New York City, and traveled with her sisters across New England. In recent years she loved going to horse shows with her brother and grand-niece, Kate. She invited Lady Luck by playing Lotto or visiting the casinos, and shared her occasional winnings.
She lived on South Orchard Street for 75 years and developed strong ties with several generations of neighbors, especially the Murray family. She never stopped shoveling snow and trimming her lawn, despite all advice to the contrary. Her generosity and independent spirit will be missed by many.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Spokes; nieces, Melissa Edwards and Georgian Lussier; grand nephew Kevin Lohr and grand nieces, Kimberly Lohr and Katherine Lussier; a sister-in-law, Bernice Farkas and nephews by marriage, William Lussier and Peter Lohr, all of Wallingford. She leaves a cousin, Sister Helen Bay of New York, and extended family in New Jersey, as well as a beloved second family, Scott and Phyllis Murray and their children. She is preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth; brother-in-laws "Buster" Edwards and Arthur Spokes; her brother, George Farkas and her treasured nephew, Michael Farkas.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, June 29th from 1 - 3 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Monday at 10AM in the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery. Memorial contributions may directed to the Wallingford Senior Center, 238 Washington Street, Wallingford, CT 06492 or the American Legion Post, 190 Ward Street, Wallingford, CT 06492.
