WALLINGFORD - Doris Helen Wachtelhausen, 83, of Wallingford, departed this life on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Wachtelhausen for nearly 65 years, and she and Robert resided in Venice, Florida, for the last 14 years. Doris was born on June 24, 1924, in North Haven, CT, a daughter of the late Walter and Edna (Hill) Blakeslee. In earlier years, Doris had worked at the former Gordineer's Clothing of Wallingford, and Security Insurance for a number of years. She had been a member of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford and participated in many social groups associated with the church. She was also an active member of the Venice East Golf Association of Venice, Florida. Doris was a volunteer for the local Cancer Association drives and was secretary of the Wallingford chapter of the VFW #591. Doris devoted herself to her family. In addition to her husband, she will be sadly missed by her sons, Richard (and Lori) Wachtelhausen of Wethersfield, Thomas (and Sue) Wachtelhausen of Wethersfield, Gary (and Kim) Wachtelhausen of Wolcott; her daughter, Roberta Wachtelhausen of Hartford; her grandchildren: Todd, Christopher, Gregg, Tyler, Leah, and Brendan Wachtelhausen; and great grandchild: Sari Wachtelhausen. She is preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Blakeslee, and her sister Sylvia (Blakeslee) Rider. A memorial service will be led by the Rev. Dean Warburton of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:00 am at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford. Burial will be at the In Memoriam Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
