Obituary of Frank Gumkowski
Frank Gumkowski, 79, of Wallingford, suddenly departed this life on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Sabota) Gumkowski.
Frank was born on March 9, 1929, in Branford, CT, son of Julius and Helen (Arkasky) Gumkowski.
Frank was an avid gardener and Square Dancer who enjoyed travel throughout the world. He was a longtime devoted fan of UConn Women's Basketball and the New York Mets. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served during the Korean War. He had great love for his wife and family and his grandchildren brought him much joy. He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a sense of humor and positive outlook.
He will be sadly missed by two sons, Randy Gumkowski and his wife Maria, and Christopher Gumkowski, both of Wallingford; one daughter, Lauralee Koczera and her husband Jan of San Diego, CA; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, John, and AnnMarie Gumkowski and Myles and Charlotte Mary Koczera; a brother, Stanley Gumkowski of Branford; two sisters, Evelyn Hamilton and Judy Limoncelli and her husband Guy of Branford; a brother-in-law, Oscar Williams and his wife Shirley; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Sabota and several nieces and nephews. He also is survived by many life long friends including: Phil and Louise Mason, George Lange, Fran and Stu Rundlett, Bob and Barbara Cutts and Al and Vera Luft. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Gumkowski.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, May 3 at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford from 9:00 - 11:00 am. A funeral service led by Rev. Ronald Zepecki of SS. Peter and Paul Church will follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Gaylord Hospital, P.O. Box 400, Wallingford, CT 06492.
