Obituary of Arthur Betts
Arthur D. Betts Jr, 82, of Wallingford, beloved husband of 62 years to Marie (Haiste) Betts, departed this life on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Arty was born on May 8, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Arthur D. Betts Sr, and Anna Marie (McKeefrey) Betts.
During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Fireman on numerous ships. After being discharged honerably, he married Marie Haiste, and they spent many years of loving marriage together, raising their family.
Arty worked for over 20 years for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections as a printing supervisor. He retired from the State in 1988. He was a member of the Yalesville V.F.W. and a member of Compass Lodge #9 A.F. & A.M..
He was also a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church. In his spare time he loved painting and metal detecting, mostly he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Marie of Wallingford, and their three children: Carolyn Betts of Wallingford, Arthur D. Betts III and his wife Diane of FL, and Marie A. Betts of Meriden. He also leaves a sister, Peggy Hooker of FL, and two brothers, Raymond Betts and his wife Jean of PA, and Edgar Betts and his wife Pat of FL. He leaves four grandchildren, Arthur D. Betts IV and Valerie of Shelton, Andrea Flynn and her husband Mark of Fairfield, Allison Buser and her husband David of Wethersfield, and Cari-Marie Battista and her husband Stephen of Southington, along with his great grandchildren, Jacob, Isabella, Andrew, Logan, and Benjamin. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jerry Rackett and Charles Betts, and one sister, Emma MacAteer.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 4 - 7 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service celebrating Arthur's life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 10 AM at the Yalesville United Methodist Church. Those attending the church service are asked to meet directly at the church. Interment will follow in In Memoriam Cemetery. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Nadkarni and staff and Dr. Bruce Brumberger and staff for their wondeful care of Arthur.
