Obituary of Elizabeth Jobbagy
WALLINGFORD - Elizabeth (Bette) Jobbagy peacefully departed this life on April 29, 2016.
Bette was born in Bridgeport, CT on August 30, 1919 to Alexander and Julia Toth. A long time resident of Wallingford, she was the beloved wife of the late William P. Jobbagy. The two married in 1942 and raised three children. Bette worked for and retired from the Town of Wallingford Controller's Office. Bette was a life long member of the First Congregational Church, where she spent many happy years singing in the choir and volunteering for numerous charitable events.
Music was one of Bette's favorite pastimes. She enjoyed playing the piano, supporting the arts, and singing with the Wallingford Choral Society. Bette also had numerous hobbies, including quilting, gardening, cooking Hungarian dishes, painting, and traveling. Her devotion to humanity brought Bette countless friends, whom she cared deeply for and supported whenever needed. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, infectious laugh and inquisitive nature. Bette spent her last few years enjoying life in a senior residence on Cape Cod.
Bette is loved and survived by: son William J. Jobbagy and wife Silvia, son James (the late Marie) Jobbagy, daughter Susan Darmofalski and husband Stanley; grandchildren Natasha Schiller, Heidi Jobbagy, Tiffany Marin and husband Juan, Danyel Jobbagy, Sarah Elsdon and husband Charles; and great grandchildren Gabriel, Rylan, and Lucas.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at the First Congregational Church, 23 South Main Street, Wallingford. Interment will immediately follow at In Memoriam Cemetery.
