WALLINGFORD - Isabel S. Johnson, 79, formerly of Grove Street in Yalesville and Ashlar Village, died of a broken heart on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Masonic Healthcare Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Wilbur Johnson, to whom she was married for 60 years and who died less than one month ago. Isabel was born on September 11, 1928, in Newport, VT, daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys (Waterman) Sweet. She was a longtime Wallingford resident and had worked as a hairdresser prior to her retirement. She also found great fulfillment serving as a volunteer at the Gaylord Hospital for many years. Isabel was a very private person who did not want to depend on anyone for assistance. She remained strong to see Wilbur through his illness and visited with him everyday. The loss of the love of her life was too much for her to bear and she never recovered from her grief. She will be sadly missed by her son-in-law, Larry Chatfield of Middletown as well as many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur and their loving daughter, Sharon (Johnson) Chatfield with whom she will be happily reunited. She also was preceded in death by many siblings. At her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be private at Mica Hill Cemetery, Durham.
