Obituary of Richard Cassin

Meriden - Richard J. Cassin, 81, of Meriden, beloved husband of the late Beverly (Soderberg) Cassin, departed this life on Monday, November 5, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on March 11, 1926 in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Joseph and Blanche (O'Dette) Cassin. During World War II he enlisted in Navy, serving as a Gunnery. He was honorably discharged after four years of faithful service. On September 29, 1951 he married Beverly Soderberg and they spent many years of happy marriage together. He was active with his family in the Clowns of America with the Barnum and Bailey Circus. He was employed as an Engineer and Tool Dye maker for over thirty years at AGC Inc. in Meriden, until his retirement. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Meriden. He was a member of the V.F.W. He was a scoutmaster with Boyscouts of America and also active in the PTA in Shelton. In his spare time he was avid sportsman, and wonderful mentor to his brothers and family. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by his devoted children: Marlene Wall, and her husband Edward of Oxford, CT. and Robin Cassin and his wife Theresa of Meriden. He also leaves two brothers: Gerald Cassin and his wife Nancy of FL, Ronald Cassin and his wife Helen of SC. He leaves 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Valle, and a brother Leonard Cassin. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, November 8th from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow in the funeral home at 4:00 PM. Interment will be private and in St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby.
