Obituary of Walter Blakeley
Yalesville - Walter D. Blakeley, 93, of Yalesville, departed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at his home.
Walter was born on July 14, 1914, in Wallingford, son of the late George and Anna (Daly) Blakeley, and raised by his father and step-mother, Gertrude Whitworth. He was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and later attended Stone Business College in New Haven. He was employed with W.T. McKenzie, Colony Lumber Company, and later retired from Central Motor Supply. Walter was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge #1365 in Wallingford. He was also a member of the Yalesville Men's Club, and the Yalesville Volunteer Fire Department where he served 36 years as recording secretary. He is remembered as one of the founding members of the Wallingford Symphony Orchestra. He was a Scoutmaster with the Yalesville Boy Scouts of America where he received America's highest scouting award. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Yalesville.
He will be sadly missed by his three nephews: Brian Blakeley and his wife Gloria of North Carolina, Bruce Blakeley and his wife Mary Beth of Wallingford, and John Blakeley and his wife Patricia of Wallingford. He also leaves his grandnieces and grandnephews: Victoria Blakeley, John Blakeley III, Christopher Blakeley, Kevin Blakeley, and Lauren Blakeley. In addition he is survived by his sister-in-law, Kathryn Blakeley of Yalesville and special friends, Kenneth and Muriel Creed and their daughters, Karen Heslin and Alison Blythe. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his step-mother, Gertrude Whitworth and brother, John D. Blakeley Sr.
A private funeral service was officiated by Rev. Peter Quinn of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Yalesville, CT. Interment took place at In Memoriam Cemetery . Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice. The B. C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford, was entrusted with arrangements.
