Obituary of Julie Wood

BRANFORD – Julie T. Wood, 89, entered into rest on August 19, 2007 at the Connecticut Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Arthur Wood. Julie was born on February 10, 1918 in New Haven, a daughter of the late James Joseph and Elizabeth (Murphy) Tierney. She was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a pharmacist mate at Bethesda Naval Medical Center during World War II. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the University of New Haven as a secretary. She was a long time parishioner of St. Mary's Church of the Visitation in Clinton, CT. She was active in various parish activities, including: the 39ers, the Ways and Means Committee and the Small Christian Community. Julie had also been involved in numerous social services in the community for many years. Julie leaves a son, James Wood and his wife Toni of Wallingford; a daughter, Julie Lawlor and her husband Tom of Branford; a sister, Suzanne Cox of Florida; three grandchildren, Kristen Judge, Kevin Lawlor, and J.B. Wood; and three great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a son, David Arthur Wood, a sister, Helen Dugan, and a brother, James Tierney. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Julie and her recently deceased great grand daughter, Olivia Kaylee Lawlor-Judge will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 9:00 am at St. Mary's Church of the Visitation in Clinton. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A reception will follow at St. Mary's Church for family and friends. There are no calling hours. It is suggested that contributions in her memory be directed to St. Mary's Church of the Visitation in Clinton, 54 Grove St., Clinton, CT 06413. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home/Wallingford Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
