Obituary of Leona Carpenter
Leona "Cookie" Carpenter, 56, of Wallingford, beloved wife of Kenneth Carpenter, departed this life on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Hartford Hospital after a long and courageous battle.
Leona was born on August 24, 1950 in Meriden, daughter of Leona (Kosienski) Godek and the late Henry Godek.
Leona was a graduate from Platt High School in 1968. When she was younger she worked on the family farm, later working for Centenial Pharmacy, and the 1St Connecticut Credit Union.
On July 30, 1971 she married Kenneth Carpenter and they spent over 36 years of loving marriage together raising their family. Leona's family was the most important accomplishment in her life, she especially loved spending time with her three grandchildren. She also loved to shop in her spare time.
She will be sadly missed by her husband Kenneth of Wallingford. Her mother Leona Godek of Wallingford. She leaves her two children: Michele Bloom and her husband Scott of Wallingford, and Jeffrey Carpenter and his wife Amy of Southington. She also leaves three sisters, Patricia Godek of Hamden, Judith Godek of NH, and Mildred Jones and her husband Philmore of NC, one brother, Alfred Godek of Wallingford. Her three beloved grandchildren, Dianna and Sarah Bloom, and Jaidyn Carpenter, along with numerous relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gabriela Balf for her outstanding care of Leona these past years. Without her help Leona would not have been able to have the quality of life she did.
Relatives and friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford on Wednesday, August 15th from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 following the calling hours in the funeral home. Interment will private. In lieu of floral tributes memorial contributions may be directed to: St. Raphael Foundation, 1450 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
