Richard W. Breck MD, 89, of Wallingford, and beloved husband of the late Laverne (Rauenswinter) Breck, departed this life on Monday, July 30, 2007 at his home. Richard was born on March 26, 1918, in Lima, OH, son of the late Harry and Yvonne (Ebersole) Breck. Dr. Breck was a graduate of the University of Toledo class of 1940. His graduate studies in Bacteriology were done at Indiana University 1941-1942 and Yale University School of Medicine in 1945. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and served as a Medical Officer at Scott Air Force Base, Fort Belvoir and Walter Reed General Hospital. He practiced medicine in Wallingford from 1949 – 2005. Dr. Breck was the attending physician at the Meriden – Wallingford Hospital from 1949 – 1981 during which time he was Chief of Staff 1960 – 1962. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1970. He was on the Board of Directors of the Wallingford VNA 1970. Dr. Breck was the Medical Director and attending physician since 1965 at the former Wallingford Convalescent Home (now Regency House of Wallingford) and also was the Industrial Physician for the International Silver Co. from 1949 – 1980. In 1988 he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Yale School of Medicine and had been the National Chairman of the Yale Medical School Alumni Fund in 1970. He was a charter member of the Farms Country Club in Wallingford. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Melanie Monroe and her husband Todd of Georgetown, TX, a sister, Sarah Bertram of Toledo, OH, two grandsons, Todd and Thomas Monroe, and two nieces, Sally Martin and Leslie Boudouris of Toledo, OH along with a cousin, Mary Breck Lyon and her husband Mansfield of Newport, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford, on Friday, August 3, 2007 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating Dr. Breck's life will follow on Friday at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main Street, Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
