Obituary of Anabel Brieff
WALLINGFORD - Anabel Brieff, 91, of Ashlar Village entered into rest on June 19, 2007 at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the first flutist, first love, and first mate of her beloved late husband of sixty-six years, Frank Brieff.
Anabel was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on October 24, 1915, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Bess Millison Hulme. A well known and sought after flutist in the New York music scene, Anabel had been awarded a scholarship to the University of Southern California where she studied prior to transferring to Juilliard where she met her husband. She had been a member of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Musicians Union 802. She had studied with Moyse and later taught the flute herself. She was the Julia Child of the Potting Shed at Edgerton Park in New Haven and enjoyed making jewelry. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her late husband, Frank. She had great Joie de vivre and all who knew her joined in the fun. She had many admirers and many more good friends and will be sorely missed. She is survived by three children, Jo-Anne Brieff, Gerry Lewis, and Madeleine Miller and her husband Scott; four grandchildren, Chris Lewis and his wife Tracey, Hillary Lewis Winklemann and her husband Jamie, Kirsten Miller, and Eben Miller and his wife Karen; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on August 4, 2007 at the Activities Room of Ashlar Village in Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made to the charity of one's choice. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home/Wallingford Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
