CHESHIRE – Joan Burgess, 87, of Mountainview at Elim Park Place departed this life on May 19, 2007. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. Burgess. She was born on December 12, 1919 in Yorkshire, England, a daughter of the late William and Helen (Williams) Davies. She had served in the British Women's Army during World War II. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Halstead and her husband Jim of Wallingford; a son, Paul Burgess of Georgetown, TX; a brother, William Davies, Jr. of England; a sister, Dreena Gill of England; three grandchildren, Scott Halstead and his wife Marie of Newington, Mark Halstead and his wife Melissa of Holliston, MA, and Hannah Burgess of Mahomet, IL. She was especially fond of her two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ethan Halstead. There are no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the chapel of Elim Park Place. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. The B.C.
