Obituary of Olga Verde

WALLINGFORD – Olga Angela Verde, 85, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on April 20, 2007 . She was the beloved wife of the late Salvatore Verde. She was born in Power, West Virginia a daughter of the late Silverio and Candita Annunziato Balzano. Olga spent her early years on the Island of Ponza, Italy and later returned with her family to settle in Bronx, New York. She married Salvatore on June 16, 1946. Prior to her retirement in 1983, Olga and her husband owned and operated Sal's Pizzeria in Bronx, NY from 1960 and later opened Verde's Restaurant & Pizzeria in Catskill, NY. She was a parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Olga will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt by her family. In addition to the love of her family, Olga's second love was in the kitchen. You could always see her beautiful smile as she prepared one of her many delicious meals that were enjoyed by so many. The recipes she passed down to her family will be enjoyed and treasured forever. Olga is survived by a son Frank Verde and his wife Marcy of Cheshire, and her daughter Marie Buno and her husband Kevin of Wallingford, her two grandsons and joys of her life, Kevin Buno, Jr. of East Haven and Christopher Buno of Enfield, a sister Adele Mazzella of West Melbourne, FL, a brother Salvatore Balzano and his wife Ada of Bronx, NY, a sister-in-law, Michelina Balzano of Bronx NY, and many nieces and nephews who also brought great joy to her life. She was predeceased by two brothers Silverio and Joseph Balzano and a brother-in-law Pompeo Mazzella. Friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 No. Colony Street, Wallingford on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford on Thursday, April 26, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. If friends so desire memorial gifts in her name may be sent to the Franciscan Home & Hospice Care, 267 Finch Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451.
