Obituary of Harold Granucci

WALLINGFORD -- Harold M. Granucci, 90, of 4218 Pond Ridge at Ashlar Village, formerly of 183 Cheshire Road died Saturday, February 17, 2007 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Sara Louisa Allred Granucci. He was born in Wallingford, September 21, 1916 a son of the late Francis (Frank) J. and Helen Conway Granucci. Harold was a graduate of Stone College in New Haven and Quinnipiac College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.W. Army as a Master Sergeant in the Pacific Theater. He worked at C. F. Wooding Co., Wallace Silversmiths and was a self-employed accountant until he opened Strand Furniture in Wallingford, which he owned from 1953 to 1979. After retirement, he created a body of geometrically-based artwork for which he was recognized in shows at various art galleries and universities. Harold was a member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven, the Wallingford V.F.W., a charter member of the Farms Country Club and loved to play tennis there and was also a member of the Bulls and Bears Stock Club. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Tarn Granucci and his wife Jody of New Haven, Peter Granucci and his wife Paula of Gilsum, NH, a daughter, Alison Granucci of Millbrook, NY, a sister, Helen Thomas and a brother, Robert Granucci both of Wallingford, three grandchildren, Celeste Gustafson and her husband Peter, Tarn Granucci II, and Lucas Granucci and a great-granddaughter, Rose Gustafson. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Granucci and Ronald Granucci and a sister, Jean Haines. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Pond Ridge at Ashlar Village, Cheshire Road, Wallingford. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. The Wallingford Cremation Service, 273 South Elm Street. is in charge of arrangements
