Obituary of Ephronia Yaghsizian
WALLINGFORD - Ephronia Yaghsizian, 103; entered her heavenly home on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Born in Aintab, Turkey on Oct. 15, 1912, she was the daughter of Mesrob and Zarouhi Zenian. When she was a child, her family escaped Turkey and resettled in Syria. Effie was educated in Missionary Schools and studied nursing at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. She worked as an R.N. and midwife before coming to the U.S.A. in 1947. There Effie met Hagop Yaghsizian and they married in 1950.
They were active members in the Armenian Memorial Church in Watertown, MA. Hagop and Effie raised their three children in Arlington near Hagop's family. When Hagop passed away, Effie moved to R.I. to be near her daughter's family. At that time she discovered her talent for painting and ceramics. At age 81, Effie came to Connecticut to reside with her son Arne (d.2012) and daughter-in-law Catherine. Her remaining years were spent enjoying her grandchildren and endearing herself to many at the Wallingford Senior Center.
Her memory will be cherished by her daughters Lucy Gagnon and husband Richard of N.H. and Dorothy Pimental and husband Arthur of R.I.; her beloved daughter-in-law Catherine; grandchildren Ara, Lisa, Elana, Daniel, Felicia and Mariel; 9 great grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews.
Effie's family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. A memorial service will be held in Ephronia's honor at Armenian Memorial Church, 32 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, MA on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. Burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington, MA will be private.
