Dear Kevin & Matthew ~ My heart is with you now and always and I am just so sorry for your loss.
Aunt Betty , I will always remember your generosity of heart and all that you did to make my life better . I know we lost touch but not a day went by that I didn't think about you and keep you in my prayers .
I have beautiful and cherished memories of you and hope that you know that you were a catalyst for me in making changes in my life and in my quest to become a better person .
I hope that you are at peace in Heaven and you're finding joy ..the kind of joy that you deserve .
I wholeheartedly wish that I could be there to pay my respects to you but perhaps another day when I'm home again I can do so .
I've so much I want to say ...things I should have said sooner .

Betty and I were best friends since our sophomore year at Saint Mary's High School in New Haven. The love and friendship that we shared is now a part of me forever and so Betty will be with me forever. Much of what Betty gave to me in that friendship she gave to all of you. When she opened her door to you, her face lit up with delight and she gave you a big hug. Of course, Betty was her mother's daughter. After giving you that big hug, she would ask, "Are you hungry?", then offer you something to eat. If you were sad or upset, she could offer steady counsel and encouragement, and you knew that she had really listened to you and cared about you.
Betty celebrated life and that celebration was most evident on birthdays and holidays when she and Kevin opened their home to family and friends. For all of us, many of our happiest memories are of the fun times we spent with Betty, Kevin, and Matthew at the prettiest house on Sylvan Avenue whose porch was always appropriately decorated for every holiday and season. Especially in summertime when the hanging baskets and flower boxes overflowing with bright blooms were a gift of beauty to the neighborhood and an outward expression of the lovely soul within.
But Betty herself was no shrinking violet; she was a strong-minded woman who cared deeply about people and believed that they should be treated with kindness and respect. So she was passionate about politics (and sometimes that passion would flame hotter after a glass or two of wine!) One of our most memorable times was the day we spent at a phone bank for the election of President Obama.
Betty loved. She loved her family, her friends, children, the Yankees!, and life. The love of her life was Kevin who always made sure that she had flowers. The joy of her life was Matthew who made her so proud, not only for his success as a writer, but mostly because he grew up to be a kind and caring man. I was privileged to witness Kevin and Matthew return her abundant love with their tender, gentle care of her in her last days.
There is something we must remember--Betty loved to laugh. She appreciated quick wit and droll story-telling but her laughter came from an effervescent delight at sharing life with her family and friends. Perhaps we can best honor her by sharing the joy of life with others and remembering to laugh.
My most fervent hope is that Betty has been reunited with her mother Jo, her father Whitey, and her dear friend Malcolm.

Dear Kevin and Matthew,
I can't tell how my heart is broken. Our walks everyday, our forever friendship, our kids playing together. And Kevin our running. Not too long ago Betty and I reconnected and laughed and cried. I will hold this beautiful woman in my heart forever as well as the two of you. She is in heaven now smiling, laughing and so witty - I'll miss her as her family will too.
With Love,
Vicky

Really sorry to learn of this sad news. I remember Betty well and although we did not really get a lot a chance to get to know each other better...I remember her as a kind and considerate person and a loving wife and I am sure Mother.
My deepest sympathies go out to you and Matt. Please get in touch if you ever want to chat or meet sometime.
