Obituary of Dorothy J. Root

Dorothy Root, 85, departed this life on May 17, 2017 at Elim Park in Cheshire. She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph L. Root.

Dorothy was born in Woodbridge, CT on August 13, 1931 to the late Wallace and Ruby (Sharpe) Johnson. In her earlier years, she attended Hillhouse High School and played on their field hockey team. She and Ralph later settled in Wallingford and she worked as a house keeper for many years. She was an avid animal lover and often donated to the ASPCA. Dorothy and Ralph were also involved in many organizations in the Wallingford area including the Wallingford Rod & Gun Club and Friends of Lyman Hall Football. Above all, they were dedicated parishioners of the First Congregational Church of Wallingford.

Dorothy is survived by her son Glenn Root (Bethany Root) of Wallingford, daughter Lori Conrad (Brian Conrad) of Colorado and step-son Ralph Root (Linda Root) also of Colorado. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren: Joshua Root, Noah Root, Tyler Konopka, Senior Airman Riley Konopka, Chad Wallace (Nicole Primmer) and Trevor Wallace, and step-grandson James Conrad. In addition, she will be greatly missed by her two great-grandchildren: Emma Tarpey and Aiden Wallace. Dorothy is predeceased by her three brothers: Kenneth (Josephine), Herbert (Charlotte) and Richard Johnson, as well as a step-son, Lee Root.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd at 11:00am at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home located at 273 S. Elm Street in Wallingford. Interment will immediately follow at East Side Cemetery in Woodbridge.
