Obituary of Ellen Claypool Robbins St. Clair
Ellen Robbins St.Clair of Norwalk died May 19, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born May 28th, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Frederick W. Robbins and Jane Claypool Robbins. She was raised in Cambridge, Ohio.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer St.Clair- Gunter and her son, Michael Jon Gunter of Lees Summit, MO, a daughter Amey St. Clair and her son, Jacob St.Clair-Bell of Wallingford, CT, her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Karin Robbins, of Sewickley, PA, her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Bea St.Clair of Highland, CA and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Jon D. St.Clair and an infant daughter, Anne Robbins St. Clair.
Mrs. St.Clair graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology. She began her varied career as a Speech Pathologist in Highland Park, IL and the Arlington County VA public schools. She was employed by Solomon-Cross, a convention service agency in Atlanta, GA, was the Vice President of Loan Administration for Village Bank in Portchester, NY and worked with Blossoms in Norwalk,, CT.
She loved being at the beach and hearing the waves crashing as she read book after book. She attended as many classes as she could that fed her continued quest for knowledge about the arts, culture, and history. Newport, RI was one of her favorite places to go as she loved the gardens and countless mansions to explore. But above all else, nothing brought her more joy than being a “Grammy” and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her witty personality, her perseverance, and her generosity and compassion towards others. She will be deeply, deeply, missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the ASPCA or P.A.W.S. of Norwalk, CT.
