Obituary of James A. Brown
UNIONVILLE - James Arthur Brown, 86, formerly of the Yalesville section of Wallingford, departed this life on January 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born in Meriden on December 17, 1931 to the late Douglas MacNeil and Evelyn (Frutchey) Brown. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years Gretchen Kern Brown, his sister Jeanne Louise Brown and his brother Douglas MacNeil Brown Jr. He is survived by his loving daughter Noora Brown and her husband Khamis Abu-Hasaballah. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Suhaib, Maryam and Jennah Abu-Hasaballah.
A legend in the fence business and beyond, Jim graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford in 1949 and attended two years of Harvard before enlisting in Officer Candidate School in the Army. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim was the owner of North Star Fences, (North, South, East and West, North Star Fences are the Best!), which he founded in 1964 and ran the business along with Gretchen for 30 years before retiring in 1996. They were proud members of the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce. He was a model of integrity and hard work. Mr. Brown Sir, kind, considerate, generous, judge of good character, lover of all women as he was affectionately known to many. He was loved by many, a great man, a faithful friend, a father, grandfather and husband.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 10:00 - 11:15 AM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S Elm St., Wallingford. Interment with military honors at the CT State Veterans Cemetery will immediately follow. Gretchen will also be laid to rest next to him.
