Obituary of Earl John Atherholt
Earl john Atherholt, Jr, 86 of Wallingford, CT passed away on February 7, 2018 peacefully at home with his high school sweetheart of 67 years, Emma, by his side.
Earl Atherholt was born Luzerne, PA to parents Earl and Marguerite (King) Atherholt on May 3, 1931. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in Ft. Knox, KY. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a technical writer and was also a published freelance writer. He also served in the CT State Police Auxiliary. Earl was an avid marksman and member of the NRA. He was a knife collector whose collections were featured in numerous publications and displayed in the Smoky Mountain Knife Museum in Sevierville, TN.
Earl is survived by his wife, Emma, as well as daughters: Carlee Atherholt Wolff and husband Douglas Wolff of NH and Beth Atherholt of Meriden, sister Roberta Atherholt Gavner of Saugerties, NY, grandsons: Matthew Atherholt of Meriden and Kevin Wolff of Chicago, IL and granddaughter Sarah Wolf of VT, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Morris Atherholt and his son Gary Atherholt.
A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 941 Old Rock Hill Road, Wallingford on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00am. Burial will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery, Maplewood Avenue, Wallingford. Visitation will be held at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford on Friday, February 16 from 6-8PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his honor may be given to Hartford Healthcare Hospice or the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
