Obituary of Francis G. Cannata

WALLINGFORD - Francis G. Cannata, 94, departed this life on April 23, 2018 at the Masonic Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Gladys (Segedi) Cannata.

Francis was born in Middletown on September 6, 1923 to the late Joseph and Carolina (Menito) Cannata.

As a teenager, he lied about his age to join four of his older brothers to serve during World War II. He served in the US Army Air Corps as a medical corpsman and served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and in the European Air Offensive. He was awarded the EAME Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He had worked as an insurance investigator before retirement and was a lover of golf, playing well into his later years.

In addition to his wife, is survived by his son Brian Cannata (Joanne); daughter Lisa Bramer (Don); five grandchildren Aaron Cannata,Ashliegh Cannata, Sarah Rowe (Adam), Matthew Bramer, Jacob Bramer; sister Carol Convey and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters and six brothers.

The family will receive friends and visitors on Friday, April 27th from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. A funeral service will immediately follow. Interment with military honors will be in Center Cemetery in North Haven. It is suggested that contributions in his memory be directed to a veterans' charity or the charity of one's choice.
