Obituary of Sandra Elaine DeLong
WALLINGFORD - Sandra Elaine DeLong of Wallingford CT left us quietly on Thursday April 26, 2018 in her home at Regency House. She was our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend … along with being a bold, innovative, and charming woman of strong opinion and a deeply spiritual heart. Sandra was an artist with a real talent for painting and clay work. She was always ready with an opinion and a lively discussion about all things artistic. She loved to discuss architecture, fashion, art history, trivia, and movies of the 1950’s. Her charisma and love of life touched all around her.
Sandra was born in Salt Lake City, UT on June 28, 1934 to Walter and Peggy Ball. Her parents moved to Berkeley California where she was raised. She married Denton DeLong in 1954 and they had a lively time raising three children and moving across the United States several times. They also lived in Italy while raising their young family in the 60’s. Sandra and Denton sadly lost one of their children, Tia Denel DeLong, at the age of 21. Sandra became a dedicated Christian Scientist through her marriage. She was a profoundly spiritual person and lived life with great courage and cheerful faith. Most recently she was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Westport, CT.
Sandra is survived by her two children Lonia Adams and Kyle DeLong, daughter-in-law Sandy DeLong, grandchildren Reece DeLong, Kira Adams, Danielle DeLong, and Brooke Adams, and two beautiful great-grandchildren children Zariah and Myah Maldinado. Sandra was a generous great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and wife.
A celebration of Sandra’s life and spirit will be privately held at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the Regency House - Recreation Center, 181 East Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492.
