Obituary of Gene Franklyn Brady
EAST HAVEN - Gene Franklyn Brady Sr., 86, departed this life on May 11, 2019 at the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital with his family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Susan Pamela (Cooper) Brady. Gene was born in Honolulu, HI on November 20, 1932 to the late Harvey and Susie (Jordan) Brady. He was lovingly referred to as “Superman” due to his strength and resilience throughout his multiple bouts of cancer.
Gene served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of both the Korean War as well as the Vietnam War. He received his B.S. of Commerce at the University of Virginia (1958), followed by earning his master’s at Wayne State University (1965), and lastly a dual Doctor of Philosophy and business administration at the University of Oregon (1971).
Gene educated others as a business professor at Nova Southeastern University, the University of Bridgeport, the University of New Haven, Quinnipiac University, and most recently Southern Connecticut State University. He has published multiple books, journals, and research articles. Gene served the Lord faithfully through his church, Zion Lutheran Church of Wallingford, CT, as a Sunday School teacher, an elder, and president. Some of his favorite hobbies included reading, writing poetry, wood burning, and playing with his dogs.
Besides his loving wife Susan, Gene is survived by his children: Tiffany Brady, Gene F. Brady Jr., Jennifer Brady, Cindy Strasser, Loretta Kramer (the late Michael Kramer), Mark Knight, Valarie Majano (Jay), Matthew Hyatt (Caitlin). He is also survived by his grandchildren Summer, Cali, Francis, Vincent, Dustin, Cory, Heather, and Shannon, as well as several great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Shirley Thompson. He is survived by his sister, Beverly Fenton, and his brother, Terrence Brady.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street in Wallingford. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 235 Pond Hill Road in Wallingford.
