CHESHIRE, CT - Anthony J. Burgess, 81, husband of Joan Davies Burgess of 150 Cook Hill Road, Elim Park Place, formerly of Orchard Lake, MI and Green Valley, AZ died Friday, April 25, 2003 at the Mid-Sate Medical Center in Meriden, CT. He was born on November 7, 1921 in Surrey, England, the son of the late Maurice and Margaret Gummery Burgess.<br&gt;<br&gt;Mr. Burgess was a graduate of London University. Before his retirement he was the vice-president of engineering for Joseph Lucas Engineering North America. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers for which he gave lectures and presentations throughout the world, the I.E.E.E and was an avid golfer. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a major in the Indian Army.<br&gt;<br&gt;In addition to his wife Joan, Mr. Burgess is survived by a son Paul Burgess of Georgetown, TX, a daughter Carol Halstead and her husband James of Wallingford, CT, 3 grandchildren Scott Halstead and his wife Marie, Mark Halstead and his fiancee Melissa Moore and Hannah Burgess.<br&gt;<br&gt;The funeral service and burial will be private.
