Obituary of Kathryn Norton Barnard
MILFORD - Kathryn Norton Barnard, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 25th at Ashlar Village, Wallingford. Born and raised in Columbus, IN, she was the daughter of the late Mayme Brown Norton Gividen and H. Earle Norton. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to the late Charles Clifford Barnard.
Kathryn graduated from Columbus Central High School, and attended Indiana University where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She graduated from International Business College, Fort Wayne, IN, and was a member of Tri Kappa, a philanthropic sorority in Indiana.
During World War II, she met her husband in Bridgeport where he was Assistant Captain of the Port and she was working in the legal department of General Electric. They were married in 1946 in Frankfort, IN.
Kathryn was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, MA and devoted many years in service to that movement.
She was a past president of the Shakespeare Theatre Guild in Stratford, and she loved her work in the Oronoque Village House and Garden Club in Stratford, serving in many capacities, including one term as president.
Her greatest joy was her family and home. She loved interior decorating, gourmet cooking, knitting and family gatherings with her beloved children and grandchildren.
Kathryn is survived by her three daughters: Susan Vincent and her husband Taylor of Fairfield, Betsy Sages and her husband Ron of Greenwich and Deborah Brinsko of Monroe as well as her five grandchildren: Barnard Ross Vincent, Laurie Sages Dhanraj, Patti Sages, Rebecca Brinsko and Jennifer Brinsko. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of B.C. Bailey Funeral Home of Wallingford, CT.
