I met Claudia some 20 years ago. At that time each of us had just moved and found new jobs. We found some common interests, and I learned of her studies and work at Yale. We engaged in some pinball, video games, darts, and socializing. I remember her most as an intelligent person, able to speak of not just other people, but of events, and how the world was changing because of them. She realized the importance and intimate connection between people and events. To quote her, ""There is always this essence people have... to discover, to try something new, yet be disciplined enough to forge ahead when progress hits a wall."" That quote came from my diary in early May, 1982. It is something I wrote down the day after she said it, and it still has great meaning today.
