Obituary of Thomas William Spence
WALLINGFORD - Thomas W. Spence, Sr., 90, of Wallingford and formerly of Hamden, beloved husband of 58 years to the late Margaret (Shannon) Spence, departed this life on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Mid-State Medical Center.
Thomas was born on November 18, 1924 in Braddock, PA. He was a long time employee of Mite Corporation in New Haven as a Machinist/Engineer. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II. While in the Navy he served on the U.S.S. Mingo Submarine as a Machinist Mate. He was also a former Officer of the Groton World War II Submarine Vets. In his spare time he was an avid reader, frequenting the Wallingford Public Library. Thomas was also a talented craftsman and handyman.
He will be sadly missed by his six children: Kathleen Lambour-Spence and her husband Gary of MD, Joanne Alexander of North Haven, Thomas W. Spence Jr. and his wife Fran of MN, John Spence of Durham, Darlene Weghorst of NC, and William Spence and his wife Michele of Wallingford. Thomas also leaves 8 beloved grandchildren: Christopher, Alisha, Ryan, Matthew, Emily, Natalie, Olivia, and David. Thomas is preceded in death by his sister: Elsie Crann.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, June 8th at 1 PM at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm Street, Wallingford. Fr. Thomas Walsh of Most Holy Trinity Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at In Memoriam Cemetery.
