I just heard from an old high school friend that Matt had passed away. When Matt was young, we used to play Dungeons and Dragons together at his house. I remember Matt as being a good friend and a really cool "DM." I was disappointed when he moved away, and although we never regained contact, I was saddened to hear of his passing. I always wanted to take a class with Professor Rafferty as I always teased him. I could not pass on my own, but I thought through family I could get away because I was a relative. Absolutely not Matt would say and we always laughed. We will be always proud of him and may he continue his lecturing in heaven. Prof. Rafferty was one of the people who inspired me to become an economics minor. I fondly remember many nights staying up way too late on the phone with my friend trying to figure out the problem sets he assigned us in econometrics. I learned so much from him and loved taking his classes. He made a huge impact on my academic life. He will be very missed.
