Obituary of Gloria Hocking
Gloria G. Hocking, 81, of Wallingford, departed this life on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the loving wife of the late Roger L. Hocking.
Gloria was born on February 24, 1933, in Wallingford, a daughter of the late Alfred and Naomi (White) Germain.
She worked until 80 years of age at Peerless Screw of Cheshire. She had attended Southern Connecticut State University. She had a great love of travel that brought her throughout all fifty of the United States as well as much of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. She was a life long member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was active in church activities, including retreats at the Mercy Center. She was an active member with Polio Outreach of CT, and found some of her greatest joy in watching the many activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her son Brian Hocking and his wife Alicia;daughter Shawn Winberg and her husband John all of Wallingford;daughter-in-law Eileen Hocking of MA;6 grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; and her sister, Charlotte (Chy) Swatkins of Wallingford. She also leaves her dear friend and co-worker of 45 years, Sami West. She is preceded in death by her beloved sons: Roger A. Hocking and Gary M. Hocking, and her brother Robert Germain.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford from 3-5PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 No. Main St., Wallingford at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the In Memoriam Cemetery.
