Richard A. Warner, age 88, a resident of Wallingford, CT (formerly of Rowayton, CT and Fripp Island, SC) died on August 11, after a brief illness. Richard was born on July 15, 1926 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Holderness School, Plymouth, NH; Williams College in Williamstown, NY; The University of Virginia Law School in Charlottesville, VA; and Harvard Business School in Harvard, MA. A veteran of World War II, Richard joined the Navy in 1944. Richard practiced law in New York with Tompkins, Boal and Tompkins before beginning a long career in human resources and outplacement counseling. He joined US Rubber Company in 1953, serving in staff and plant labor relations positions. In 1957, Richard became Assistant Director of Industrial Relations of Riegel Paper Corporation, rising to corporate Vice President, Human Resources in 1969. He also served as Vice President and Officer with North American Philips Corporation and held Vice President positions with Amerada Hess Corp. and Continental Forest Industries. His career culminated with the position of Vice Chairman for Michael Simon Associates, a leading outplacement firm in New York. Richard was an avid volunteer in numerous civic, business, church and charitable organizations for many years. He served on the Conference Board's Management Committee and on The American Paper Institute's Employee Relations Committee; was President of the New York Industrial Relations Society; and was a member of Wharton's Labor Policy Committee. Richard was a member of the Boards of Directors for the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT and Search for Change, a rehabilitation center in Westchester County. Richard also was an executive committee member of The Norwalk Community College Foundation Board. While living in Rowayton, CT, he served as President of the PTA as well as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for St. Luke's Church in Darien, CT. While living in South Carolina during some of his retirement years, he was a trustee of the Greater Beaufort County Boys and Girls Club. He also served on the tournament committee of the Metropolitan Golf Association. A lifelong advocate for education, Richard attended Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT in his 80s to pursue his passion for art history. Richard is survived by his four children, Richard of Arlington Heights, IL and his wife Mary Beth, Robert of Newburyport, MA and his wife Dianne; David of Bristol, CT and his wife Deborah, and James of Riverside, CT and his wife Susan. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Kyle, Amy, Matthew, Andrew, Stephanie, Katharine, Emma, Lindsay and Claire. His wife of 51 years, Nancy Deane, and his brother, Donald, both predeceased him. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Church in Darien, CT followed by interment at First Congregational Church Cemetery in Old Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to The Norwalk Community College Foundation, 188 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854. The B. C.
