Obituary of Donald W. Smith
WALLINGFORD - Donald Williams Smith, 85, peacefully departed this life on August 2, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Jane (Bunnell) Smith.
He was born March 6, 1929 in New Haven a son of the late J. Gerald and Evelyn (Williams) Smith.
He was a Korean War veteran of the US Navy having served aboard the USS Sarsfield. Prior to retirement he had been a Foreman at Pratt & Whitney and an employee of the former Dime Savings Bank.
Donald served as the chaplain of the American Legion Post 187, was a member of the Wallingford Senior Center, and had been a long time, active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Wallingford. He enjoyed travel and had visited many countries.
In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by children Susan (Andrew) Bravo of Wallingford, Kristine (Jimmy) Gonzalez of Hartford, Evelyn (James) Wyskiel of Middlefield and Diana Smith of Natick, MA; grandchildren: John (Melissa) Adams of Milwaukee, WI, Kathleen Adams of Wallingford, Alexander Wyskiel of Middlefield; step granddaughter Kayla Gonzalez; a brother Gerald (Lucy) Smith of North Canton, OH; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Allen Smith and his nephew, Mark Smith.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 5th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 6th at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wallingford. Interment with military honors will be held at the Northford Cemetery. It is suggested that contributions in his memory be directed to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, NW Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005 or the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. The family would like to thank the hospice team from Masonicare Home Health and Hospice for all of their compassionate care.
