WALLINGFORD - Barbara (Manwaring) Cassella, 79, of Wallingford, beloved wife for over 60 years of Thomas J. Cassella, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Apple Rehab Farmington Valley. Born in Waterbury, CT to the late Paul Sr. and Esther (Lorensen) Manwaring, she graduated from Plainville High School at just 16 years old. Barbara attended Meriden Hospital School of Nursing. It was on rotation at Yale New Haven Hospital where she met the love of her life at a local gas station. They were married in 1954 and lived in New Haven before moving to Wallingford to raise their growing family. Barbara worked most of her life as an LPN at Masonic Home and Hospital in Wallingford. Barbara was always an active woman. She and her husband enjoyed skiing, running, tennis, fishing, bowling, and traveling. Barbara will probably be remembered most for her love of animals, her sense of humor, and her zest for life. Aside from her husband Thomas J. Cassella, she is survived by her children, Amy C. Jarboe and her husband Gary of Plainville, CT; Thomas E. Cassella and wife Linda of Sunderland, VT; and Andrew P. Cassella of Wallingford, CT; her grandchildren Meghan Gaignard, Erik Jarboe, Krista Galante, Andrew Cassella Jr., and Arakel Platt-Cassella; and her six great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her son David J. Cassella and her brothers Robert and Paul Jr. Manwaring. Her family will receive relatives and friends at B.C. Bailey's Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford, CT on Tuesday, February 18th from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Eucharistic Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main St., Wallingford, CT on Wednesday, February 19th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Wallingford.
