MIDDLEBURY — Jay Koonz passed away on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, with his loving wife, Cheryl, close by. Jay was born in Waterbury, Conn., son of the late Margaret and John Koonz. Jay graduated from Naugatuck High School as well as Waterbury State Techinical College with a degree in computer science. He was a longtime employee of Timex in Middlebury. Jay had a passion for motorcycles and giving rides to others in his Ural sidecar. He was a very devoted member of the Patriot Guard, attending numerous missions and writing about his adventures for the Cruise News. Besides his devoted wife of almost 40 years, Jay is survived by his seven siblings, sisters; Chris Cleveland, Lynn Kirdzik and Marta Koonz, his brothers; Jim, Rick, Keith and Kevin; several nieces and nephews; and his little monkey (CK). Those who knew Jay know his standard attire was jeans: so we are asking everyone to wear them to his service. A memorial service celebrating Jay's life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the B. C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
