Obituary of Robert S. Thompson

WALLINGFORD - Robert S. Thompson, 91, of Wallingford, beloved husband of 65 years to Agnes "Nan" (Robertson) Thompson, departed this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Mid-State Medical Center. Bob was born on June 30, 1921 in Wallingford son of the late Clifford F. Thompson and Mary (Simson) Thompson. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University, class of 1943, and a Veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps having served during World War II. He worked as a Bookkeeper for Wallace Silversmiths, General Manager at Barbarino Rental and Leasing and later retired from Triple Springs Water. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Wallingford where he served as Treasurer for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Church Choir and Men's Club. Bob's involvement in the church very much defined the man he was. He was a past-president of the Wallingford Rotary Club. In his early years he was an avid stamp collector. He loved spending time at his property in New Hampshire; he enjoyed blueberry hunting and growing tomatoes. He leaves to celebrate life, his wife Agnes "Nan" Thompson of Wallingford and their children: Robert P. Thompson and his wife Peggy of AL and Sally T. D'Allesantro of Wallingford. Bob also leaves 4 grandchildren: Gina M. Montano and her husband CJ of IL, Melissa S. Thompson DVM of GA, Corrine R. D'Allesantro of MA, and Robert J. Thompson of AL, along with 2 great grandchildren: Lyla and Eva Montano. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church in Wallingford. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Wallingford, 23 South Main Street, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the charity of one's personal choice. The B. C. Bailey Funeral of Wallingford has been entrusted with arrangements.
