Obituary of Janice V. McKernon
Janice V. McKernon, 69, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis. She was the loving wife of 45 years of Robert McKernon.
Janice was born on July 7th, 1943 in Teaneck, New Jersey to the late Harold and Mary Frances Baldwin. She was raised in Cheshire and graduated from St. Mary's High School in New Haven. She attended Albertus Magnus College and held a Master of Arts degree from Goddard College in Vermont.
Janice then practiced for many years as a psychotherapist at the Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven and at Meriden-Wallingford Hospital in Meriden, where she headed the Alcohol Treatment Program. She also maintained a private practice in psychotherapy for many years.
Janice's battle with MS lasted for more than forty years, and she fought valiantly throughout that time to keep her valued mobility and independence for as long as she could. Her strong spirit, courage and ability to laugh when most would want to cry will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched.
In addition to her husband, she will be sadly missed by her daughter: Jennifer Doak; three grandchildren, Colin McKernon and Erika and Rachel Doak; three brothers, Barry, Christopher and Scott Baldwin, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford. Friends and family will gather directly at church. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, May 30th at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street, Wallingford from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. It is suggested that memorial contributions may be directed to the Connecticut Chapter of the National M.S. Society, 659 Tower Ave., 1st floor, Hartford, CT 06112.
