Dear Sue, Will, and the entire Roman extended clan,
I'll always remember seeing Ben for the first time on the Cape, as a little baby with Will the bigger brother, and all three of you adjusting to a new life together. Getting Will lunch while spoon-feeding Ben, and trying to find time for yourself to drink a glass of wine. :)
You all figured that out then, and now you are figuring out something new. Ben is woven into you and all of those whose lives he touched. He made a difference.

Sue, Will and all of the family, you have my prayers and my love. I have been in a state of shock since I heard earlier today. I have such vivid memories in my head of Ben as a little guy, and have many of the wonderful photos of the boys that Sue sent me over the years. Since I had a role in bringing him to his family and new life in CT, I know that he went to a family filled with love and support. This is such a tragic example of how kids don't get that whatever is happening in their lives now is only temporary and that things can and usually do get better. I am trying to think about the love that was in his life all of these years because it is too hard to think of the pain he must have felt. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and void you, his family feel. I know that you will find a way to pay tribute to Ben in a way that also helps you in the long and difficult healing process. We never, ever forget our lost loved ones, though.

Ben would make me laugh in Health class when he would enthusiastically bounce up and down on the fitness ball and his incredible head of thick hair, often colored in a vibrant hue, would fly up then fall back into his eyes and he would laugh.
